Annual Camping Trip
Just returned from our annual camping trip to North Park in Colorado. Was a great 9 days away from computers and TV's and radio and news. I am something of a news-aholic, but I didn't miss it until on the way home, when I started wondering what had been happening. Guess what - same - or very similar - stories on the news. Maybe I can wean myself away from the news, but I doubt it - it's just too accessible. And I think that's a problem for our culture. If news is everywhere and "if it bleeds, it leads" is the starting point for news, folks are likely to get a warped view of how the world actually is. And it's actually a safe, healthy, improving place. Additionally, of course, if there is any attempt to slant the news, that makes perceptions even more false.
